If youre bored playing AAA games, Bastion is a must try.

Bastion is a beat em up platformer action game. The story takes place at Caelondia, fictional world left in ruins and swarming with monsters after destruction event called “The Calamity”. You played as the kid, white haired buffed teenagers who came to save Caelondia. Along the game, every action you take will be narrated by “The Narrator”. with sulky, manly voice. This makes you feel like youre playing games accompanied by Morgan Freeman’s Red in Shawshank redemption.

Gameplay is quite simple in general. You explore the level, beat some monsters, gain experience and beat the boss at the end. After each boss, youll get The Shard which will be used to open more Shops. This is Great thing about Bastion, Shop will open more customizatio. Theres blacksmith to upgrade your weapon, liquor shop to upgrade you status and even Shrine which give you options to harden the game in exchange for more exp per kill.

Beat em up

It is a well design game, visually beautiful and so much depth. The soundtrack though is something else. Until today, it is the most beautiful in game music ive ever experience. I havent played Read Dead Redemption though, as reddit forum told me the soundtrack is beautiful as well.

Bastion as the time this is written is on sale in Humble Store for only 3 bucks and previously it was priced less than 10 bucks on Steam also. If youre looking to buy a gaming piece of art , go grab Bastion.

By the way, are you guys on steam ? Lets play together

How Steam did digital distribution correctly

In the land where 84% of installed software are unlicensed, paying for stuff using digital distribution platform is still a foreign concept.  Just like having a meal without rice

As a true Indonesians born and bread, im a jack sparrow kind of a guy (read : pirates) when it comes to digital stuff. You name it,music, movies, software, games all of them. Price and availability usually accredited as the culprits of our piracy culture. Why would you pay 200k to watch Gypsy Danger beating up Kaiju when you can stroll to ambassador mall and get it for 7k rupiah. Even if i want to pay, most of the times the content isnt available to purchase in here (case in point : Netflix). And even if i want to pay and the content is available to purchase, what plus points do i get by buying the original ones ? pat in the back surely not enough.

That was before my encounter Steam platform.  Nowadays i can proudly say in at least one category of digital goods (games), i got it in a legal an honest way. Valve, the company behind steam who also developed the cult following Counter Strike & Half Life series, did everything right in battling the piracy. Rather than going for offensive measures, Steam makes buying a legal content a seductive offering to even a born-and-bred piracy doers like me (and fellow third world country civilians i presume).

Steam has three advantage points which makes me preferring to spend money on original PC games rather than pirating. Continue reading “How Steam did digital distribution correctly”
