W-Day Playlist

This is my first post written with a ring in my hand. I left my single life behind around a month ago when i said my vow and took this lady as my beautiful wife. We had our modest reception party in a hall inside government office in Kalibata which was festive, fun and much much more joyful than me and Sari had ever imagined before.

Speaking of reception, I had a silly pet peeves about this. Far too many reception that i attend had the same song played over and over again, usually its Bubble’s cover of L.O.V.E, Diana Ross’s Endless Love or Shania Twain’s From This Moment.  Theres tons of other beautiful love song out there, this repetitive trend needs to change.

Hence one thing on the top of my wishlist for wedding reception is to pick, plug and play my own song. Im going to stand straight for two hours anyway, might as well do it with some music that i enjoy.

That and also i cant afford live band. Freakin expensive man.

Here are several songs i picked to be the soundtrack of my W-day. Lets start with the first one

Angel & Airwaves – The Adventure

Theres no better song for me to start new life chapter than AVA’s maiden single, The Adventure. Tom Delonge’s majestic arrangements just puts you in the right mood to leave your comfort zone and going for an adventure. In my case, the comfort zone is my PC-gaming and fast-food-filled single life and the adventure is taking Sari’s hand into the great unknown.

I cannot live i cant breathe, unless you do this with me!

City and The Colour – The Girl

Dallas Green really knows how to serenade a girl. Unusual, considering he is the guitarist of Canadian post hardcore band Alexisonfire. If you need a song to make a girl a grow butterfly in the stomach and little bit shaky in the leg, this song is your sure fire bet.

While I’m off chasing my own dreams, Sailing around the world

Above and Beyond Acoustic – Miracle

This song actually dont really have wedding or love theme. I picked it up because it sound really classy and majestic. If you havent known Above and Beyond before, check out their full acoustic show Live in Porchester hall. Beautiful music.

Ed Sheeran – Tenerife Sea

I probably spend my time listening to this song longer than the time Ed Sheeran need to write it down. This song also instantly played in my head when i first see Sari in her white Javanese wedding dress. Gorgeous.

Should this be the last thing I see, I want you to know it’s enough for me

Queen – You’re My Best Friend

Queen’s bassist John Deacon dedicated this song for his wife which he just recently married at the time of the writing. Couldnt get more suitable than this right ?

I’m happy at home (happy at home), You’re my best friend

Meiko – Stuck On You

I can describe Stuck On You as a dance bait song. The cheerful melodies accompanied by soft vocals of Japanese-American singer song writer Meiko forced me to head bopping and feet-tapping, every single time. Sweet like a bag of candy.

You are the one I could never be done with, I want you tonight and for the rest of my life

Cranberries – You & Me

I cant be sure why i picked this song. Probably i grew up listening to Dolores Oriordan heavenly voice. Or maybe i was subtly hypnotized by Adam Sandler’s Click  and aspire to have Cranberries song in my wedding. It is no 2 of my favorite all time Cranberries track, right after Dreams.

Explosions In the Sky – Your Hand in Mine

EITS is a four piece instrumental post-rock collective from Texas. The best description for this band genre is “Epic background music”. By playing Your Hand In Mine, walking down the aisle of Balai Makarti Hall feels like strolling around decimated landscape in the midst of Autobots vs Decepticon battle.

Flight Of The Conchords – The Most Beautiful Girl

A tongue-in-cheek reminder that in all seriousness of this event, a healthy dose of silly jokes are the important ingredients in my relationship with Sari.

Looking round the room, I can tell that you, Are the most beautiful girl in the…room.
And when you’re on the street, Depending on the street, I bet you are definitely in the top three

Snow Patrol – Chasing Cars

When me and Sari started to plan our wedding, we decided to do everything by ourselves as possible as we can. We spent both of our savings, pick the reception theme that we both fancy and invite the people that we want. It was not an easy process. We had lot of disagreements and sometime fights. Thankfully, we could resolve all the conflicts and went work together again for our goals. The experience made me realize that not only i found a myself a wife, but also a co-founder. Someone i can always work together with despite disagreements and conflicts.

Chasing Cars summarized this experience perfectly.

We’ll do it all, Everything, On our own
