Setelah 5 hari kerja yang berat, hari minggu adalah waktu surga untuk berolahraga dan melakukan hobi. Pagi tadi aku membaca artikel menarik di Digital DJ Tips yaitu tutorial untuk melakukan kontrol software Virtual DJ menggunakan iPhone atau Android. Sayangnya, menurutku tutorialnya kurang detail dan didemokan hanya di iPhone saja.

Berbekal browsing sedikit, aku berhasil melakukannya di HTC Sensation XE dan hasilnya keren. Tanpa panjang lebar, berikut langkah langkahnya.

VirtualDJ dan HTC Sensation XE

Software & handset yang aku gunakan berikut download URL nya:

1. Windows 7 Pro (laptop kantor hehe)
2. Virtual DJ Pro 7.0 (Yo..ho..hoo)
3. HTC Sensation XE dengan OS Android 4.0 ICS
4. TouchOCS android apps
5. PureData Extended sebagai library kontrol MIDI Audio
6. TouchOSC Bridge untuk Windows
7. basic.pd. config file untuk PureData

TouchOSC bisa didownload di handphone maupun tablet.

1. Lakukan koneksi laptop dengan handset

Cara paling mudah untuk ini adalah dengan setup wifi hot spot di Android lalu lakukan join wireless networks di hotspot android.

2. Install TouchOSC bridge dan PureData

Langkah kedua ini tidak perlu penjelasan detil. TouchOSC Bridge berfungsi sebagai client untuk berkomunikasi dengan aplikasi TouchOSC di android. PureData adalah runtime untuk protokol MIDI control. Next, next, next dan jalan, semudah itu saja.

3. Konfigurasi PureData

Buka pd-extended.exe, setelah dialog keluar muat file basic.pd dengan klik menu File > Open. Setelah berhasil, akan muncul dialog seperti dibawah.

Di windows basic.pd, klik Edit > Edit mode. Ganti IP address di kotak connect dengan IP address device android yang ingin dikoneksikan, biasanya kalau hotspot IPnya 192.168.1.1.

3. Konfigurasi IP Address di TouchOSC android

Masukkan IP address laptop di menu OSC dan Bridge, pastikan yang ditulis adalah IP dari interface wireless LAN.

4. Tes koneksi dan mapping VirtualDJ

Kalau konfigurasi IP address benar, selanjutnya adalah mencoba melakukan aksi di aplikasi TouchOSC. Pilih layout Mix 2 dan tekan Done.

Cobalah untuk menggeser crossfader (yang berwarna biru) ke kanan dan ke kiri. Lihat apa yang terjadi di window puredata, aplikasi akan mengeluarkan baris yang berbeda terhadap setiap action yang  dilakukan di Android.

TouchOSC sudah terkoneksi dengan baik. Selanjutnya kita buka VirtualDJ dan melakukan mapping.

5. Control-Mapping di VirtualDJ

Buka VirtualDJ, lalu lanjutkan ke Config > Mapper. Handset Android akan dikenali sebagai Simple MIDI Wrapper. Lakukan mapping setiap keys di aplikasi TouchOSC dengan fungsi dari virtualDJ. Dibawah adalah konfigurasi yang aku buat menggunakan layout Mix 2:

Darth & Vader a.k.a Hugo Castellan surely was not trying when producing bass-heavy tunes named Return of The Jedi, he did. This Brazilian producer known for his formula of mixing dirty electro house sounds with wobbly bass of dubstep. Just the sound i recommend hearing to if you want to have sudden urge to bang your head to the wall.

I heard them first in the Eminence weekly podcast, their remix on Kitchen by Sheff is just beast. Cant help not to make mix with my Darth & Vader playlist. Check Afrojack’s Prutataa remix and their original production, Return Of The jedi

A good day you have and may the force-step be with you

High school, the place and time where everyone shamelessly jump into whatever bandwagon that says cool. The fad compass change direction instantaneously  from Harlem Hip Hop scene to Manchester’s Brit Pop. My school was invaded by everything Japanese. Spearheaded by a band called Laruku, suddenly teenagers with neon blue hair color can be excused as “Harajuku”, bands started playing Animes soundtracks and Azumi Kawashima became household name for hormone-driven male students.

My friends have a Laruku cover band called Usagi at that time, thats how i started exposed to the Japs stuff. I remember watching Stay Away music videos, the one with awkward synchronized dancing at the end. Followed up by buying their Clicked Singles Best compilation casette and boom, i was officially part of the trend.

Laruku has been rockin the stages for 2o years and for the first time, they put Jakarta as one of world tour destination. A long expected pilgrimage for J-Fan all over Indonesia. Although ive moved on way over the Japs scene hangover years ago, couldnt help to secure the tickets. Its high school all over again.

Three IMAX-like giant screen at Laruku concert

It was the best visual experience i had. Thats my one liner review on Laruku concert. Hyde, Tetsu, Ken and Yukihiro went all out that nite. They brought 3 giant screen which played different visuals for each song. The image quality was IMAX-like, 500k IDR which i spent on the festival ticket suddenly felt so cheap. A slight dissapointment i can point to was the sound, the quality was ok but the volume was not heart bumping  loud enough.

Performance wise ? superb i can say. Hyde brought back visual kei style, that just add up with his flamboyant persona. One thing i realized when watching Hyde perform was he always had this war face when he’s singing. Ken threw joke around in Bahasa Indonesia, damn funny. Yukihiro didnt interact with the audience at all. Tetsu on the other hand did his signature habit which is throwing bananas to audience. These kind of simple interaction makes a concert memorable, Laruku did this perfectly.

Setlist opens with their relatively new song such as Chase, XXX, Good Luck My Way, Drink It Down, Revelation, My Heart Draws a Dream. Just before encore they kick adrenaline out of the crowd with their signature singles such as Drivers High, Ready Steady Go, Honey and Stay Away. Encore started slowly with Anata, Fourth Avenue Cafe, Link and the show tonite closed with Niji.

Im a sucker for Laruku early album singles such as Blurry Eyes, Vivid Colours, Winterfall and Kasou, they didnt include it in the performance sadly. Nevertheless, one cannot deny that it was a great experience.

Whether you are a die hard fans or a posers, Laruku just rock the hell out of Lapangan D senayan. A good band is a good band indeed, even tough i dont understand what their song was talking about.

Not for me today, i dont know its the weather or just the universe trolling, 6 am i already wake up and fresh. Like ive got nothing better to do, decided to warm up my controller and play with Virtual DJ. This time im gonna mix some Duck Sauce.

You might not know them but i bet youve heard their single, Barbara Streissand. Duck Sauce is a Canadian-American house producer duo consist of Armand Van Helden and A-Trak a.k.a Alain Macklovitch. Duck Sauce’s sound so much disco, their music video Anyway for me is somewhat tongue in cheek for Earth, Wind and Fire. Anyway, without further due check my mix below on mixcloud.

Lalu lalang kendaraan tidak terlalu ramai , polisi lalu lintas pun baru datang dan bersiap untuk mengantisipasi kemacetan. Di jalan ini, yang sudah sibuk adalah manusia kecil berseragam sekolah. Bergerombolan ataupun yang diantar orangtuanya, anak anak tersebut menyebrang jalan dan masuk kedalam sebuah gang kecil yang didalamnya terdapat  kompleks sekolah dasar.

Sebentar lagi murid murid SD tersebut akan mendapat kejutan. Yang akan masuk kelas bukanlah wali kelas mereka seperti biasanya. Yang akan masuk dan memberikan pelajaran didepan kelas adalah para Inspirator kelompok 17 dari Kelas Inspirasi.

Hari Inspirasi di SD Kebayoran Lama Selatan

25 April 2012 yang lalu adalah Hari Inspirasi, hari dimana kelas inspirasi yang pertama di laksanakan. Secara serentak, 25 SD di Jakarta dikunjungi oleh lebih dari 200 professional dari berbagai macam lini pekerjaan. Para Inspirator kelas inspirasi tersebut akan bercerita tentang profesi mereka masing masing kepada murid murid di kelas. Selain bercerita, Inspirator juga memberikan nilai  kebaikan dan motivasi untuk bercita cita tinggi kepada para penerus bangsa didepan mereka

Aku bertugas sebagai fasilitator untuk kelompok 17 kemarin. Bersama dengan Niluh Sekar (Editor in Chief majalah Dewi), Steve Kosasih (CFO Perum Perhutani), Niesha Triaswari (HSE Engineer – Statoil), Johan Tectona (HSE Officer Astra Otoparts), Dannu Danil (Supply Chain Officer – P&G Indonesia), Robby Adiarta (pemilik Angkringan Cekli) dan juga Anita Sutjipto (IT Project – Smart Tbk), SD negeri Kebayoran Lama Selatan 03 pagi telah kami inspirasi hari itu

Jam 6 pagi, inspirator sudah bersiap siap di ruang guru dengan bahan bahan yang akan mereka pakai di kelas. Niesha sudah siap dengan pakaian safety lengkap, Anita dan Robby membawa LCD projector, Danu yang akan memperkenalkan supply chain dan Niluh yang membawa karikatur lucu tentang pembuatan majalah. Selama persiapan, pihak sekolah yang diwakili oleh ibu Sitorus berbaik hati sekali membantu kami.

6 kelas yang menjadi tempat Inspirator beraksi, kelas 1 sampai kelas 5 ( kelas 3 dua kelas). Masing masing mempunyai cara yang unik untuk menguasai kelas. Danu yang  cara berbicaranya sudah seperti guru sekolah, membawa permainan mencari jarak paling efektif. Permainan sejenis board game ini dibuat sendiri oleh Danu, hanya sehari sebelumnya. Berbekal uang mainan dengan nominal tertentu, anak anak harus memilih jalan yang tepat dengan biaya yang terendah.

Mengenalkan supply chain sedari kecil, ide yang luar biasa dari Danu. Seingatku, aku hanya dapat C untuk mata kuliah ini di kampus dulu.

Niluh Sekar, sang editor membawa anak anak menyelami pembuatan majalah. Tidak hanya itu, anak anak juga diajak berprakarya membuat majalah mereka sendiri seperti membuat scrapbook.    Johan, dengan semangat berapi api berbagi cerita tentang perjuangannya menjadi insinyur. Hasilnya ? perkenalkan foto dibawah, Labib, sang calon insinyur.

Aku juga sempat mengajar kelas 1 dan 2. Walaupun sebelumnya aku sudah pernah mencoba, tetap saja aku sempat kehabisan akal ketika kelas mulai tidak terkendali. Hal ini tidak berlaku untuk Pak Steve Kosasih, setiap kali beliau memasuki kelas murid murid langsung diam. Karisma mungkin ya. Aku dan teman teman yang lain pun terkagum kagum dengan kualitas Pak Steve.

Niesha membawa materi pengenalan minyak bumi. Satu hal yang menarik, ketika niesha bertanya  darimanakah asal minyak bumi, ada seorang anak yang menjawab : Dinosaurus, ibu guru. Itu adalah salah satu momen priceless yang membuatku terharu.

Anita, mengenalkan anak anak tentang pekerjaannya sebagai IT dengan memperlihatkan berbagai macam software. Robby, pemilik AngkringanCekli, memberi cerita dan nasihat bagaimana caranya untuk menjadi pengusaha.

Dia bangga sekali bercerita ketika ada anak yang bercita cita untuk pergi umroh.

Jika ada yang berkata bahwa mengajar SD itu mudah, entah orang itu hebat sekali atau kalu tidak dia berbohong. Itu kesimpulan yang pak Steve sampaikan ketika selesai seharian mengajar. Aku dan teman teman lain sependapat dengan itu. Capek sekali rasanya, bagaimana bapak dan ibu guru mampu melakukan itu setiap hari adalah satu keajaiban buat kami. Salut dan salam hormat untuk semua bapak dan ibu guru dimana saja, kalian memang pahlawan sesungguhnya.

Selepas jam 12, setelah bel pulang sekolah dibunyikan. Team 17 menyempatkan diri untuk ngobrol dan mengucapkan terima kasih kepada pihak sekolah yang telah mensupport kelas inspirasi ini. Setelah berfoto dan beramah tamah, kami pun undur diri

Eits, tapi kelas inspirasi hari ini belum berakhir. Setelah berlelah lelah seharian menghadapi ratusan murid murid berenergi tinggi. Team 17 makan siang bersama di Fish & Co Gandaria City. Saling bertukar cerita dan membangun relasi, kelas inspirasi menyatukan berbagai macam individu dengan satu hal yang sama : kepedulian terhadap pendidikan Indonesia.

Kelas Inspirasi yang pertama sudah berjalan dengan cukup sukses. Melihat dari timeline twitter dengan hashtag #kelasinspirasi, responnya luar biasa. Setelah persiapan selama beberapa bulan dan dan konseptor awal yang hanya 20 an orang, output seperti ini membuatku dan teman teman volunteer yang lain bangga.

Tapi ini tidak akan berhenti sampai disini , obrolan di Gandaria City bersama team 17 membawa ide dan semangat untuk menjadikan #kelasinspirasi lebih besar, luas dan viral. Ajaib memang, di kegiatan ini semua yang terlibat menjadi inspirasi untuk yang lain.

The best ones i can recall is Deftones live in Kuala Lumpur 2010, i was moshing my ass out inside the unfinished club building full with angry-sweaty metalheads. For 200 plus ringgit concert, sound quality was awful and the venue is just not right.  This was obvious when the opening band performed . But when Deftones starts reving the guitar, crowd were going mental . All in my head was “Fuck, its Engine number fucking 9, imma throw my body in the moshpit”. Sound quality? what sound quality ?

Great concert works like that, the band will screw with your state of mind and bring the songs emotion out of you. I was perfectly happy in the concert but i just couldnt help the urge to punch somebody in the face when Deftones performed. Yesterday, i had the same experience. Not with Deftones, but with Efek Rumah Kaca (ERK). Not anger but the helpless gloom and infinite sadness chilling to my spine.

ERK was performing in Ngompol (Ngomoming Politik) at EX, a political awareness events founded and hosted by Pandji Pragiwaksono and friends.

If you know tv show Provocative Proactive in MetroTV, its kinda like that but offline. After the show was cancelled, Pandji took the movement of political education to the youth out of the tube and straight into the mall. Consisting of talk show, stand up comedy and music performance, ngompol held monthly at EX Plaza Thamrin. As a regular atendees, i couldnt recommend you more. Entertaining, funny and you go home with something to think about.

Lets get back to ERK. I can say right now in Indonesia, there no one quite like them. They sound just like Radiohead, with falsetto vocals and howling guitar sounds. But thats not the real quality of ERK, its the lyric and the message which sets them apart. Missing activist , tribute to Munir and social critics of urbanization are several themes of ERK songs.

Yesterday, ERK calmly starts the performance with Banyak Asap Disana.  A social critics about mass urbanization. Enough with the warm up, the band really sets the tones of the show when Di Udara comes into  play. Check the snippet of the lyric :

Chills down my spine, a mysterious gloom just slips from the speaker into my brain. ERK jinx the audience into bitterly and sadness. Its so strange because i was in the mall, Starbucks and XXI was around me. Its just not the place to be sad, but ERK just threw the audience into another place.

Its just getting better when they do Hilang, a song about kidnapped Indonesian activist circa 1997-1998. The falsetto and guitar sound intertwined with the name saying of the activist along with the missing date its just pure heart slicing.

By the end of the show, i am a fans. They brought their lyrics to come alive and haunt the audience, cant help it. When i arrive home i had to take my dose of Big Bang theory just to feel slight happiness again, fuck yes i was sad.

5 hari dari sekarang adalah hari Inspirasi. Hari dimana 200 anak bangsa inspiratif dari berbagai macam lini profesi mengunjungi 25 SD marginal di seputaran area Jakarta. Setelah hampir 3 bulan persiapan, aku berharap Kelas Inpirasi akan berjalan lancar nanti.

Sementara itu, izinkan aku untuk mendedikasikan posting blog ini untuk para relawan Kelas Inpirasi yang luar biasa. Minggu kemarin di gedung PGN, Indonesia Mengajar mengumpulkan para relawan kelas inspirasi dalam acara briefing pra-acara. Sebagai fasilitator kelompok, aku bertugas mengumpulkan relawan kelompok 17.

Dannu Turpratama Danil

Relawan yang lulus dari ITB jurusan Teknik Industri ini, bekerja sebagai Suppy Chain Transportation Manager di P&G Indonesia. Mengaku sebagai pria yang ambisius, Dannu pernah menjabat sebagai ketua divisi olahraga HMTI ITB. Lulus dari ITB dengan predikat cumlaude, Dannu siap menginspirasi dengan segudang cerita motivasinya.

Sekarang saya bekerja di bidang logistik, dimana mungkin saya bisa membagi pengetahuan kepada adik-adik kita tentang bagaimana bisa mereka bisa mendapatkan shampoo di warung dekat rumah mereka.

Johan Tectona 

Johan berasal dari Tulungagung, Jawa Timur. Lahir di desa kecil, sejak SMP sudah merantau untuk menempuh pendidikan. Lulus dari jurusan Teknik Lingkungan Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, Johan kemudian bekerja sebagai Health & Safety Officer di Astra Otoparts, sampai sekarang.

Banyak kesan dari masa-masa sekolah dan menurut saya setiap pagi menenteng tas dengan perut laper tetapi tetap semangat berangkat ke sekolahan itu adalah hal yang tak terlupakan.

Robby Adiarta

Pria Kudus lulusan Teknik Sipil, UGM ini mempunyai visi yang unik : mengangkat derajat makanan rakyat. Robby mewujudkan visinya ini dengan mendirikan Angkringan Cekli, warung angkringan yang mempunyai konsep modern (dengan akses internet Wifi). Robby menjadi salah satu wakil wirausahawan inspiratif di Kelas Inspirasi.

Saya mempunyai visi mengangkat derajat makanan rakyat, karena kuliner asing sudah banyak masuk kenegeri kita. Lewat Angkringan Cekli yang menjajakan makanan rakyat saya akan mewujudkannya

Niesharsa Triaswari

Niesa berprofesi sebagai Health and Safety Officer di Statoil, perusahaan migas asal Norwegia. Walaupun kantornya berbasis di Jakarta, tetapi Nisa sering bolak balik mengunjungi oil rig statoil yang berada di lepas pantai.

Semoga pengalaman saya bekerja di remote area dapat menginspirasi anak-anak bahwa bekerja tidak harus selalu di kota besar, dan juga untuk anak-anak perempuan bahwa kaum perempuan juga memiliki kesempatan kerja yang sama, apapun jenis pekerjaannya dengan anak-anak laki-laki

Have you ever wondered what can you accomplished in five minutes ?  As of now there is a bowl of cereal next to my laptop, i couldnt pictured myself finished that (while still look civilized) in 5 . TEDx Jakarta on the other hand, sold 400 of its seat in, insert a dramatic pause here , less than five minutes.

Faster-than-a-motherfucker ticket sold out stirred the emotion of the twitterland twitizens, adding the hype of this annual event. Wailing, rants, amazement of the disappointed ticket hunters colored Indonesian timeline so much its near impossible (if you have twitter) to not wonder what is this TEDx Jakarta all about (if you didnt know it before).

This year TEDxJakarta has became too big for its own good.

This year i wasnt coming as a visitor. After few discussion, TEDx Jakarta agreed to give Kelas Inspirasi promotion booth in the venue.  For you who havent been to this event , it is a pilgrimage for Jakarta’s most creative minds. The audience is a part of the show, you’ll meet start up founders, NGO’s evangelist, high-spirited volunteers. In short, its full with passionate people with unordinary jobs and interest. Thats the kind of people we want to participate in #kelasinspirasi and its also a crucial place to spread awareness.

Agung and Fira, just finished preparing the booth

The show started with performance of 57kustik, group of incredibly talented street musician under tutelage of Rumah Musik Harry Roesly. They shared a stage with Dave Koz at the latest JavaJazz, check below video.

If you didnt experience chills down to your spine, something wrong with your soul. Yes, they are that good.

When i entered the venue, 57kustik was doing collaboration of Michael Jackson’s Man In The Mirror with familiar guy on the piano. After few glimpse i realize, the man was Gita Wirjawan our current Minister of Trade. A friggin minister on piano playing MJ, coolest statesman ever. The next session, he spoke about our current state of nation’s economy and why we should choose hope over fear.

Connie Bakrie, come up next. Not related to Bakrie family in case you’re wondering. She is a military defense analyst. Remember the movie Peacemaker with George Clooney and Nicole Kidman? She’s like Nicole Kidman role as an expert there, the difference is shes for real. Connie talked about how this country is currently under resourced in terms of defense. One Indonesian navy port she visited didnt have any boat. If there was any pirate ship coming, navy will chase them using no other than prayer she jokingly said.

I missed the whole after lunch session. Our booth was overwhelmed by waves of curious TEDsters (i made this up just now). Rene Suhardono, Salsabeela from NulisBuku, Dhira Narayana from LGN, thats just some of awesome people who i had discussion there. By the time next session started, me and Agung were starving and exhausted. We called it a break and use it to catch a breath before the next session.

Third session started with F Widayanto, an internationally recognized ceramic artist. He shared his experience finding passion, not an easy ride. Alienated because of his learning difficulty in school, he found his life calling on ceramic.

Noor Huda Ismail on Life Journey Of A Terrorist

Last speaker to come up on stage was Noor Huda Ismail, a writer of a book called My Friend is a terrorist. Noor and his close friend, Mubarok were grown up together in an islamic boarding school. Not one predicted that one day both of them will cross path again in an opposite role, Noor as a Washington Journal reporter covering Bali Bombing and Mubarok as a terrorism suspect. Noor Huda shares his research on how someone become terrorist.

Most people are drawn to terrorism not because of a set of ideas or lectures; they are driven by a sense of injustice. It is more often an emotional decision than an intellectual one

Noor also founded Institute for International Peace Building, an NGO which helps former terrorist and combatant to assimilate back to society. For me, this was the best talk of the day, eye opening and chilling.

Thats a wrap for a day full brainfreshing experience which still hasnt fail for me so far. Good venue, great speakers and mostly inspiring audience, TEDx Jakarta prove itself worth queuing for.

One thing still hang in my mind. TEDxJakarta 2011, sold out in less than 30 minutes then this one less than 5 minutes. If the trends going on next year, i guess we need to move the next TEDx Jakarta venue to Gelora Bung Karno.
